KDEconnect problems...
Hi folks,
I tried to install the latest KDEconnect, but the instructions were meant for those far smarter than I, and I also kept getting error messages about something 'ECM' even though I'd installed something to do with ecm from SBo builds.
Does anyone have any idea if this can be upgraded at all? Is there a simpler method than those on the KDE pages? I'd like to try it out, but it started once on my system, then a day later it stopped working and I can't get it to do anything on my phone or system.

KDE connect was/is a part of Slackware. Why would you install it from sbo?
1) use default Slackware kdeconnect
2) install kdeconnect oon your phone
3) make sure that your phone and pc are on the same network
4) allow connections
5) that is all
What version of Slackware, I see several in your profile to the left. KDE Connect works fine on my Slackware64-current system, also worked fine when I was at Slackware64-15.0, possibly even 14.2, but not sure on that last one.
Just to chime in, KDE connect has worked fine for me on 15.0 and -current. I use Wifi to sync my android phone so I don't know if there area any edge cases if connecting over bluetooth. Getting my device to show up *just works* on a full install.

Meh...sorry about that. I'm using Slackware 15.0 64bit.
I'm sure I screwed up by removing the stock kdeconnect on this system using pkgtool and remove. I did that thinking that the source I'd got (the updated version from the stock on Slackware 15.0) would be a simple thing to install.
Once I discovered it *wasn't* going to be easy, I'm now in a quandary. I can't seem to figure out how to install the kdeconnect that came with 15.0 back into it. <sigh>
Like I said in my OP...it worked for about a day then simply stopped doing *anything*. It won't find my phone and vice versa. I've got a decent phone, a S22+, and I tried the kdeconnect from fdroid and the one from play store (they were both the same), neither worked after that first day.
You should be able to download the approved package from a mirror or from the installation media and perform a simple "upgradepkg" since it works either "up" or "down". If for any reason any errors remain, you can "removepkg" the existing one and "installpkg" or "upgradepkg --install-new".
OR - you could remove the existing package and employ "slackpkg update" the "slackpkg upgrade-all" if you prefer that method.
Is the problem with the DNS SD functionality? From then app you can specify an IP address to pair with. If that works then it might just be an issue with the automatic device discovery which could be specific to your network.

enorbet's suggestion got it re-installed. I used the txz from the Slackware site. For some reason I was going to the 'src' instead of the install(ed) directory...duh.
Anyway, this part of getting it re-installed is solved. Now to see if it'll work again. I'll holler back with the results.

KDEconnect is working once again.
I reinstalled it from the Slackware site, but before I did that, I also deleted this:
Code:
~.config/kdeconnect
I can't be sure which made things aright once again in my system - reinstalling KDEconnect or deleting the directory in /home for it...or both probably...but it's working again. Hopefully it'll stay this way more than one day, heh.
Thank you all once again for all the help and suggestions! Take care and stay warm.
