KDE3 sound setup

Hi all!

I've been unlucky in finding an answer to this so far but perhaps some of you fellow Slackers can point me in the right direction.

I can play music throught mpg123, but none of the KDE3 sound apps seem to play any music, with the exception to the KDE terminal where I can type mpg123 to play mp3s .
Permissions don't seem to be the prblem here since I gave rw permission to everyone just to be safe (for trouble shooting purposes only).
I've tried using the KDE control center to specify the "Sound I/O method" under "Sound -> Sound Server -> Sound I/O (tab)" but only the "Autodetect" option is avaliable ... is this where the problem is?

Thanks for pointing that out.
artsd is not even running ... next I checked it with ldd, and I'm missing an so file:

libaudiofile.so.0 => not found

How should I go about fixing this?

Hurray!

I got it to work!

I had to install "Audio File Library" first <configure, make, make install > . Then I had to change the ownership of the mcop-UserNAme dir. recursevly to UserNAme (that's in the /tmp dir). And that was it

Thanx for steering me in the right direction Aussie
