Hi,
Recently I decided to start my computer to runlevel 4. But I can't shutdown my computer using KDE, but I can shutdown my computer on Gnome. What should I check ? Thanks
What login manager are you using? I think if you are using gdm to load kde it will be a two step process to shutdown: i) logout of kde, then shutdown from the gdm screen.
If you're using kdm to load kde then you can shutdown directly from kde.
I had the same problem. Someone posted the fix here.
pico /ect/rc.d/rc.4
By default GNOME"s gdm is listed first and then KDE's kdm. Switch the order and put kdm first. I do not know if it is possible to have both both working to that you can shut down from either windows manager..
When you logout of KDE (or GNOME or other) then it takes you to the login screen right? There's a menu you can add to that screen that will let you reboot or shutdown.
As root, run gdmconfig then you can customize the login screen. I think what you need to find is called the "actions menu". Just select that, save your settings, and logout out.
You'll see a new menu, which will let you shutdown from the login screen.
