K3b can't detect usb burner

Hi,

I have my external usb burner setup as /dev/sr0 by slackware automatically. When I have a normal disk in there, and I mount the device, I can read the files no problem. And then I run k3b, it detects the device when it has a normal disk in it.

The problem happens when I eject the normal disk and insert a blank disk, I obv can't mount the device again (no medium found), and when I run k3b, it gives me this error:

k3b: /dev/sr0 resolved to /dev/sr0
k3b: (K3bDevice:evice) Error: could not open device /dev/sr0for reading
k3b: could not open device /dev/sr0 (No such device or address)
k3b: /dev/sr0 resolved to /dev/sr0
k3b: (K3bDevice:evice) Error: could not open device /dev/sr0for reading
k3b: could not open device /dev/sr0 (No such device or address)

It seems to be a catch-22, K3b detects the device when it has a disk in it, but obv can't burn on it, and when I put a blank disk in it, it doesn't detect the device.

Does anybody know a way around this?

Thanks

Are you running the 2.4 kernel or the 2.6 kernel? You may need to indicate to the booting kernel how to handle your CD burning device.

For example, under 2.4, to use a CD burner, you had to give this at the LILO prompt ...

append = "hdc=ide-scsi"

In 2.6, it's slighly different.

Regarding the blank disk, you can't mount a blank disk since there's no filesystem on it yet. There's no need to mount it to be able to burn it (you won't be able to mount it aynway).
