so they sent a .deb file with this content:

./usr/
./usr/lib/
./usr/lib/cups/
./usr/lib/cups/filter/
./usr/lib/cups/filter/Jiose/
./usr/lib/cups/filter/Jiose/Filter/
./usr/lib/cups/filter/Jiose/Filter/rastertolabel
./usr/lib/cups/filter/Jiose/PPDS/
./usr/lib/cups/filter/Jiose/PPDS/Jiose Label printer.ppd
./usr/share/
./usr/share/ppd/
./usr/share/ppd/Jiose Label printer.ppd.gz

where do i need to place them in slackware? same paths?

thank you.

I've never converted a deb file before so I can't comment on the process but there is a tool available called 'deb2tgz' on SBo that you might want to take a look at:

https://slackbuilds.org/repository/14.2/misc/deb2tgz/

i did that and it created a .txz file with the same structure:

./usr/
./usr/lib/
./usr/lib/cups/
./usr/lib/cups/filter/
./usr/lib/cups/filter/Jiose/
./usr/lib/cups/filter/Jiose/Filter/
./usr/lib/cups/filter/Jiose/Filter/rastertolabel
./usr/lib/cups/filter/Jiose/PPDS/
./usr/lib/cups/filter/Jiose/PPDS/Jiose Label printer.ppd
./usr/share/
./usr/share/ppd/
./usr/share/ppd/Jiose Label printer.ppd.gz

so i got the driver installed under cups... but i tried to print and it just stays there in the queue with a status of "stopped"
is the printer working for you under slackware?

Sorry, I don't have a printer set up. Hopefully someone else will come along and help you.

If you have a PPD file, it is easy to get a printer working in Slackware.

Do the following:

# chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.cups
# /etc/rc.d/rc.cups start

Then point your browser to: localhost:631

Click Administration -> Add Printer and follow the steps until it asks for Manufacturer, at which point you can select the downloaded PPD file.

I have a .deb file from Jiose for the J500 Thermal Printer that should run on Debian-based Linux distributions.

I can't upload it here since it's not a 'valid' attachment.
