so far no one has been able to tell me where and how I can install sound drivers for my integrated Dell chipset. Sound worked fine in FC3, but is non-existant in Slackware. where can I find these drivers??????????????????????
** The driver that I use in Windows XP is the Soundmax Integrated Digital Audio driver. I already installed AC97 support and modified the module.conf. what more do I have to do?
nvm. I discovered that the permissions for /dev/dsp0, /dev/dsp1, /dev/dsp2, . . . were registered only for my root account. Allowing all accounts access to these files let me play sounds in my other accounts! ^^
The 'correct' way of doing this is to add the users to the 'audio' group in the file /etc/group (when you create a user with 'adduser', there is also an option for other groups for the user to be a member of. For access to audio, make sure 'audio' is one of these)
I just tried that, and the sound works in other users. However, when I try to access the volume control and mixer when not logged in as root, I get the dialog "Sorry, no mixer elements and/or devices found." What does this mean and how can I fix it? would this solve the fact that my sound sampling is very choppy?
