I don't know what makes you think that stability is no longer Slackware's main goal. Just because it has a functioning piece of software the same as Fedora doesn't mean that it's throwing stability out the window. Also, this is still -current, so stability is not guaranteed (even though Pat has a really good track record with it).

This must vary on hardware. I use pulseaudio on my htpc with my pretty decent home theater system (Onkyo based) and I didn't notice any difference in quality of sound when I switched it from 14.1 to 14.2. Indeed, I still notice no difference in quality if I switch from software based sound control in kodi to passthrough audio and have my receiver decode the sound stream.

I have posted many times here and elsewhere my distinct disdain for Pulseaudio but it has improved and more importantly it was never really about playback quality. That may possibly vary with different hardware but on several PCs I detect little if any difference on a multitude of hardware instances with Pulse playback. However it is a royal PITA for recording and editing.

In most cases, if all you do is playback pre-recorded audio Pulse isn't bad. Pipewire is simpler a better set of tradeoffs but playback is no game-changer for any of them, IMHO. It's more about system integration and latency in recording/editing. Stock Slackware handles basic playback just fine, especially since it is likely few here even bother with a high quality audio chipset and rely on what passes for "good enough" onboard.

It shows that Slackware has been continuously worked upon to keep 'current' error free and latest. Thanks to Patrick, entire team who contributed, and the users.

I was lucky my first Linux distro was Slackware. In other case I wouldn't use Linux at all. Okay, okay, I am not crying - just feel sentimental.
