(intel centrino wireless-n 2230) Can't connect to the internet although it is detecte

Hey everybody.

Recently I installed Slackware 14 on my computer (Dell 14z). The installation worked fine and now I have it using KDE, but now I'm having an issue when I try to connect to the internet. Knetwork Manager detects neither of the devices (wlan0, eth0) that are needed for connecting to the internet, so I downloaded the driver from a page that is redirected by Intel page
( http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/iwlwifi ) and put it in "/lib/firmware" as the page says. (I don't know if I had to do something else, since I ahven't found how to load a driver.

The fact is that Knetwwork manager still doesn't detect'em. So I use the command line and when I use

"iwlist wlan0 scan"

It detects my network and the ones of my neighbours, so I try to connect by using:

iwconfig wlan0 essid <network> key <key>

and then I use dhclient (which takes a little while for giving me an IP).

The fact is that INTERNET STILL DOESN'T WORK despite the process goes normally, and despite it seems to detect my network card (if it didn't it couldn't scan networks)

Anyone knows what could I do?

Hola,

Network Manager, for me, worked out of the box (selected during setup, configure network?, or you can use netconfig and select Network Manager. Make sure rc.networkmanager is executable chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.networkmanager.

Have you tried wicd (located in /extra). It is a very good alternative to network manager (view README.SLACKWARE).

Im no expert but both have work for me flawlessly. Hope this works for you.

Take care.
