Question Installing Slack 8.1rc1

Has anyone successfully installed 8.1rc1? I tried to install, using bare.i kernel, but am unable to boot. I get the good ol' LI prompt. I chose to install kernel from Slack CD, and all seemed to go smoothly. Except for the creation of a boot disk, which errors out stating I may need to clean my drive... Tried creating boot disk from rawrite, but box would not boot from floppy... Anyway, maybe I'll just stick with tried and true 8.0 until final release of 8.1. May just pay for the pleasure, as supporting the creators of my fave distro isn't really a bad thing. Karma and all...

Got a look at KDE 3.0.1 on a friends RH 7.3 install, and my gawd it LOOKS pretty. I didn't get to fart around with it too much, so cannot attest to performance.

Breathlessly awaiting Slack 8.1 Final.

xgtr, out...

Same here w slackware8.1RC1

When will the official ver of 8.1 come out? I can't wait and tried 8.1b2 ver but that gave me headaches so I currently dont hav linux on my box. Waiting for a new drive to use just for linux and keep win98 on this drive... Maybe it will be easier to manage the 2 OS this way. Still a newbie and not comfortable with compiling kernels yet

Once 8.1 is out, I will wean MYSELF off the Windows teat completely. My linux box is pure Slack, no dual boot. My wife runs Win2K. If I could find an Linux office suit that can handle Office2K .mdb files, then she'll be off the teat, too.

OpenOffice is what you need I think.

I'm running rc1 ATM, it looks as if there is something borked with your lilo install, you can boot your system from the install cd by typing "root = /dev/hdwhatever" at the prompt and then do "lilo -tv" and it will print out any error messages without installing lilo.
