i want to give Slack a try, but when i read the install guide, it said that i should have a floppy. the problem is that i have notebook & i don't have floppy.
Can i install Slack without the floppy or i am skrewed?
If you want to use Gnome or KDE you'll need CD 2, otherwise install CD 1 will be enough. It's possible to download individual packages later and install them if you need or want them. But install CD 1 and 2 is enough to install all of Slackware.
WOW! thanks for the help guys! i should say that Slack users give much better support than the rest of the distro's users. that's impressive! i am excited about SLack. if i have any problems , i know where to get help!
Glad you got help Also, to duel boot, you just need to install slackware and lilo (automaticly installed anyways) It will pick up on the xp partition and lable it dos.
yea, i went off of CD1 and my system is fairly compact.
the only thing I miss from disk2 are the gnome libraries i needed for some applications like ABI word (its weird cause that program is so gnome dependent that im supprised that its even on disk 1).
although the newbie install is a bit confusing, i prefer the install that uses a list of programs from each section and lets you select the packages you want. that way you dont end up with 10 mp3 players cause you cant tell that the one you want is listed later.
well guys, i want to know before i install Slack, if it has known issues with SpeedTouch ADSL modems. i hope it will work with no problems & it will be easy to set up.
do you have any tipps for me?
