Question i8253 count too high! resetting.....

I am trying to break my Bill and Steve addiction as I no longer have the bank to support this nasty habit.....

When I attempt to install Slackware 11.0 (kernel rev 2.4.33.3) onto a VM, the installation stalls and the message 'i8253 count too high! resetting' is repeated every minute (48 seconds) or so.

I attempted to load with the following command;

boot: sata.i clock=pit

I realize that this is a timing issue with VMs and their inability to handle clocking perturbations that an installed OS easily handles.

Does anyone know how to get around this so that I can install Slackware 11.0?

Have a look at these:

They sound like the same problem. The solution for one person was:
Code:
The solution it seems is to append the following boot options: acpi=off noapic to the kernel command line
Generally, it's a good idea to paste your error message into a google search before posting here. At the very least, if those sites don't help - mentioning the searches you've done will save others here some time.

Hope that helps...
