I've been meaning to post this but kept forgetting...
In case anyone is trying to get the Fujitsu Scansnap 300 or 300M working on Slackware, it is very easy. Just download the firmware from this page:

and copy it into /usr/share/sane/epjitsu. You might want to copy it into that directory and save it as '300_0C00.nal' and also as '300M_0C00.nal' -- sometimes sane finds it as a 300 model and sometimes as a 300M model. Both use the same firmware and this way it will be found no matter how sane detects the scanner. See /etc/sane.d/epjitsu.conf.
