I have seen many people in this fourm asking "How to remove lilo and install grub in slackware?"
So, Here it is:
I am not responsable for any damages that may be caused by the actions in this guide.

Make sure you have a boot disk (You do have a boot disk right?)

step 1. Download grub as a slack pack (.tgz) from http://www.linuxpackages.net/search_...name=grub&ver=

step 2. Remove LILO: open a CLI and type "pkgtool" go to remove, find lilo and select it. (This will remove lilo from your system.) exit pkgtool and type clear.

step 3. Install the GRUB slack pack: cd into the location you downloaded GRUB to and type installpkg grub TAB enter.

step 4. Install GRUB to the MBR: type grub-install /dev/hdx (where x=your harddrive)

step 5. Config GRUB: emacs /boot/grub/menu.lst make sure all of the settings are correct then save and exit.

step 6. Test it: Reboot if it fails check the grub config file, this can be do in grub.

If all else fails, boot using your boot disk, you did make a boot disk, right

if the mod could make this a sticky that would be great

Kinda hard to do this when there is no "slack pack" for GRUB for 64-bit Slackware 13.0, or for many other versions.

Wouldn't it be nearly as easy to just download and compile GRUB from source?

grub is included in /extra in Slackware 13.0, no need to find it elsewhere.

In Slackware64 13.0 I didn't see the package (don't know why) but anything to make it is in /extra/source/grub anyway.

Thanks, I couldn't for some reason use the one in /extra (?!?) but I just managed to get the /extra/source/grub copy compiled and working.
