how to install tar in slack?

when ever i i try to install the slackware,s package for its cd.
i give the command
" tar -xvzf packagename.tar.gz"
then it makes some directories like "install" , "etc", and "usr"
etc..etc... in the currect direcroty
then i enter in the "install" directory and give the command
"chmod 700 doinstall.sh"
then
"./doinstall.sh"

and then it always gives the errors
that "could not stat any file located in the usr directory or etc directoy"
dear slakers please tell me where i am doing any thing wrong.

Try "pkgadd filename.tar.gz"

(possibly pkg_add or addpkg or add_pkg, you get the idea)
