Try reading through this from the Apache documentation: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/howto/htaccess.html, or ideally, put the options straight into your httpd.conf (depending on whether you have direct access to the server).

thanks fouldsy!

following the recommendation of Apache Im using the <Directory> option to give authorization to the folder... what toke me to the follow link:
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/howto/auth.html

Now authentication per directory is working 100%.

best regards!
