How do you open a " enhanced meta file " emf picture file

HI there guys

Trying to open emf picture files on Slackware 13.37 KDE
Just cant get it to open is there a converter , program I can use to open them

Gimp and OpenOffice will open wmf (Windows Metafile) so maybe they will also do emf (Enhanced Metafile). I don't have an emf file to try but maybe worth a go.

Thanks for the reply , but open office / libre office cant open it either and gimp also refuses

These are maps topographical , huge files like 12 to 40 mb

Wonder if there is a gimp plugin or somthing

I want to rid myself of wine ,

OpenOffice 3.3.0 Draw will open emf files. I found a few examples of files on the web which work.
Try http://parins.com/logo/pacificamericanrisk_logo.emf and http://www.uwex.edu/ces/about/images/UWEXCE.emf
They are a lot smaller than your files though. Have you tried changing the memory settings in OpenOffice.
