fix for games/abuse SlackBuild on slackbuilds.org (and, yes I emailed the maintainer...)

I was messing around with the SlackBuild games/abuse from slackbuilds.org.

It used to run fine in 14.2. Now the same version segfaults on 15.0.

I found the fix here: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/52915

All you have to do is rebuild with:

Code:
--enable-debug
(just in case anyone else wants to get it running again)

I modified the SlackBuild, rebuilt it, and it worked fine. Cool! I then did what was expected of me: I emailed the maintainer.

I got a slightly irate email back saying that I should have already known from the mailing list (that I don't follow) that they had abandoned their scripts and had put them up for grabs. Well, that's fine. Since I don't read the mailing list regularly, I must have missed that.

Suggestion: when someone publicly abandons their scripts, maybe remove their email as maintainer from slackbuilds.org? Or put a note saying "up for grabs..." or something like that? There's got to be a better solution than to keep a maintainer's email listed on the site after they have given notice that they are no longer maintaining their scripts. Seems like just as easy of a fix as the one for games/abuse.

Slackbuilds.org is completely independent of LinuxQuestions and Slackware.

While some of their maintainers post here, I'd suggest that you'll probably get best results by dealing directly with them. They have a mailing list.

BTW - I tested the SlackBuild and your fix and got the same results as you. i.e: Your fix worked. Cool game... takes me back!

All understood, and a good suggestion indeed. I used to subscribe to the mailing list, but the noise-to-signal ratio was way too high for me to keep track of. You're probably right though, I should have posted there instead. I just figured that some people look here before they comb through the mailing list, because this site has a built-in search box that works well. I know I look here first. I guess I just assumed that others do too. My bad.
