file system problems

i have installed tiny linux (slackware 4.0) and when booting i get told at that the file system is read only and it tells me to put rw at lilo prompt or rdev /dev/fd0 0or something like that (im working from memory). I have tried both these and when i reboot rw it says the same thing but that it needs to be read-only. can anyone help me?
