I did stupid mistake while copying the script from the web (this site) and so I've got rm -rf. My bin and etc directories were deleted, others were not harmed. It's good that I'm using ext2 so I've found some tools which could help me: e2undel, recover, unrm, also debugfs was mentioned. I could use them if I could boot into my Slackware system, but now it's not bootable (lilo.conf, fstab and all other files in etc are missing). As well, I don't have another Linux system at home and consequently can't mount my damaged partition. Off course I could reinstall Slackware but tweaking everything from the start would be a bit painful. And this restoring task is also a challenge. Any Utopian and not Utopian suggestions how it would be possible to recover my ext2 are welcome.
What about trying to grep the disk image, since config files are plain text. This wouldn't help your stuff in bin. Read the undeletion HOWTO, if you haven't already. If your stuff is really in ext3, it is pretty much unrecoverable.
Yes. You can use cd1 to boot your system, but it may not work do to loss of major files on your boot drive. Bott to cd1, and at the first 'boot:' prompt, follow the instructions above it.
I have several live cds. One of them is knoppix. I've booted it but there wasn't any recover,e2undel stuff.
I've read some. Most of them are about undeleting several mp3 files and so on. Not about restoring all bin and etc directory.
I've booted my system with cd1. But what's now? I mounted my root partition as ro but I can't really do anything else cause all major programs are broken.
Will search something about disk image. At firstly I thought that it won't be suitable for me because you need to do it manually and so skipped it.
One idea came to my head. What if I use Slax and boot from USB key? Maybe I could compile any of these programs there?
It is POSSIBLE. But, judging from the way you are talking about the system, you maybe best off to reinstall (just don't format when it asks you to).
Sometimes, we all make mistakes of this magnitude. Just try a reload, and MAYBE (80%) everything will be ok. If not, reinstall the extra stuff you can't get to work....
To get system to work properly needed to reinstall the whole system. Installing only base system didn't help (not all programs were working properly). Thank's for everybody's help.
Side comment: Your English is excellent. The phrase "the way you are talking about the system..." just means "based on your description of the system...."
