I am working on moving to Slackware from windows. Right now I am dual booting xp and slackware. However I am having a minor problem Slack didn't dectect my Nic so I downloaded the drivers and went to install them and I get a message about the version of GCC that is on my system is not the same as what the drivers was compiled with. So I need to update the GCC and so far I am at a complete loss on how to even start doing this.
My version of GCC is 3.3.5 the version the drivers was compiled with is 3.3.6 and im running slack 10.2.
The problem is not only the version of gcc that is installed, but the version the programs of your system ( mainly your kernel in the case of a driver) was compiled with. So after you havew installed the newer version of gcc ( which should be able with the packagemanagment of slackware) you need to recompile your kernel and change the gcc-version in the /etc/make.conf file
Ah thanks for the replies. I will try this when I get home from work. I was working on this they other night and lets just say im still quite newbish, I know enough to get in trouble......
