du: total does not match detail.

Kernel: 2.6.21.5, O.S.: GNU/Linux (Slackware 12.0).
du (GNU coreutils) 6.9.

Hi:
Sort of a stupid question, maybe. But can you explain this?
Code:
root@foo:~# du -h
8.0K ./.links
4.0K ./.kde
8.0K ./.mcop
36K ./lazy-0.24e/man
64K ./lazy-0.24e/src/.deps
192K ./lazy-0.24e/src
60K ./lazy-0.24e/include
744K ./lazy-0.24e
8.0K ./cddb/classical
12K ./cddb
38M .
root@foo:~#
Regards.

EDIT: whoops! du shows examines dir contents only, by default. I had ~/serkin.wav occupying 36M. Sorry.
