dmesg throws up error mesage

After installing Slackware 11 I compiled my own custom kernel. However, for some reason when I type dmesg I'm getting this error message:

steve@slack:~$ dmesg
nd.
Intel ISA PCIC probe: not found.
Intel ISA PCIC probe: not found.
Intel ISA PCIC probe: not found.
+lots of repeats

The message repeats many times but if I revert to huge26 everything works. I tried installing the 2.6.18 kernel from testing and I got the same error again. Any ideas anyone?

Update: The only thing I can think of is that it's something to do with the nvidia driver that I installed for my custom kernel and the 2.6.18. For info I have an AMD 64 3500+ with a 6600GT and three sata drives. Everything apart from dmesg seems to be working??

OK, eventually found the cause. The "Intel ISA PCIC probe: not found." message was to do with pcmcia cards. For some reason /etc/rc.d/rc.pcmcia was executable, even though I don't have any of these cards, and I don't remember selecting this option on installation. Anyway, a quick change of permissions and everything now is well.
