Could not start kdeinit --- libXext.so.6: cannot open shared - Slackware 12.2

trying to start kde with
startx

got several instances of this:

startkde: Could not start kdeinit. Check your installation.
xmessage: error while loading shared libraries: libXext.so.6: cannot open
shared

tried to find libXext.so.6 with:
grep -R libXext.so.6 /var/log/packages/*

but found nothing

as root:
find / libXext.so.6 | grep libXext.so.6
found nothing as well on my system

I had been compiling synce and made packages for all but the synce-engine.
I tried compile the synce-engine without a slackbuild. I removed manually most of the python installation by hand but still no kde desktop. I'm only guessing this could be the problem.

At some point I compiled "sip" (some sort of python binder)from slackbuilds. The notes suggested removing it and reinstalling stock kdebinding package, but that did not help.

Any ideas what package libXext.so.6 is from.

don't see any errors logged from Xorg.0.log so must be a kde problem.

Doesn't seem to make a difference what default desktop manager I choose with pkgtool. X always crashes to desktop looking for libXext.so.6

Thanks,

Maybe libXext-1.0.4-i486-1.tgz

You won't find it in /var/log/packages if it's not installed huh? :P

Code:
slackpkg search libXext
is an easy way to check

Solved

I'm such a newb!

I did as you suggested looking for libXext.so.6

found [uninstalled] libXext-1.0.4-i486-1

found the package in the DVD under
slackware/x

made the install and everything is cool again.

That was so easy.

And thanks so much.
