Configure kDE to use ALSA with full duplexing for all users
Hi
I am wanting to use SKYPE, which i have been able to do as root, which is not ideal. I have changed the "Select Audio Device" to use ALSA and checked full duplex.
When I try to do this as an ordinary non-root user i am able to change the "Select Audio Device" to ALSA I click apply and the sound and mic work, but as soon as I check Full duplex and click apply, Knotify crashes and i get the following error mesg.
Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device: default can't be opened for capture (Permission denied)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.
And the sound no longer works, how do I fix this so that i can enable full duplexing.
Is it possible to change a config file to use ALSA with full duplexing automatically for all users.
asuming that you've already got dmix running and can accept multiple connections as root, then you should just need to change the ipc_perm value in the dmix config file, probably /etc/asound.conf this is just a normal file mask, 0660 by default, which you'd probably want to be 0666. In reality most systems often employ anm "audio" group or something, so it may well be that the nicer solution would be to add your user account to that group, if it exists.
