hi. still don,t have sound card configured, santa cruz. have downloaded the slack manual , trying to learn as much as i can about the kernal, files, etc. am at the COMPILING THE KERNAL FROM SOURCE section in the book. did the following commands from the terminal-
su -
cd /usr/src/linux
make mrproper
make menuconfig
i then select sound. there is a listing i believe are drivers, am i correct? they have 2 for crystal chip, one or 2 for creative labs. if i select M for modulize beside the chip drivers i believe i have, and save the kernal configuration. will this set up my sound card
well to get the whole thing working you will naturally need to actually compile and install the kernel, simply editing the configurations of a lump of uncompiled source code will not help in the slightest.
thanks. well , i found someone who has a precompiled kernal for the drivers i want. i will try to intall that kernal and see what happens. sooner or later i will get sound going, persistents eventually pays off, later for me thought

Uhh, as pointless as me posting this, also quite pointless it is to correct someone's spelling and/or grammar. Most linux users I have found go for speed in typing to get a point across instead of worrying about spelling, as you have well demonstrated yourself by using a more well known (i'm sure) past participle of spell in which many don't use or could be misconstrued as a grain that you eat.
