Backup XFree86 configuration

i installed slack9.1 on my laptop. The default kde analysis was 1024x786.I changed it to 800x600, but i did not like it.So i tried to change it back to 1024x786 but it stayed to 800x600 even if the resolution combo box had the value of 1024x786.Anyway i tried xf86config + xf86cfg but i couldn't make it with the damn devices so i reinstalled Slack9.1.So.. is there a way to back up my existing X configuration(files) ??
