ATI and 2.6.20

Just to throw out here....ati/amd released new 8.36.5 drivers, they are supposed to work with 2.6.20. Anyone cross that bridge yet? I had posted about it awhile ago and it figures that it would come out the day after I format.

I saw the new drivers. They still don't support Xorg7.2.... ATI sucks... It'll be another 2 months till they add an x720 directory.

From ATI's release notes:

* Before attempting to install the AMD Catalyst™ Linux Graphics Driver software suite, the following software must be installed:

* XOrg 6.7, 6.8, 6.9, 7.0, 7.1, or 7.2; XFree86 version 4.3

It appears that this includes 7.2. have you had problems still with that xorg version?

http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/l...ux-radeon.html

The release notes there make no mention of Xorg7.2 and sure enough there is no x720 directory in the tarball.

Where are you downloading from? I'm not seeing it. This is their RSS feed:

NEW FEATURES: (1) Linux Kernel 2.6.20 Support (2) AMD Catalyst Control Centre v0.9 adds language localization for: Arabic, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese Tranditional), Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazilian), Russian, Swedish, Spanish, Thai, and Turkish.
ISSUES RESOLVED: (1) In certain AGP graphics cards, the system no longer ceases to respond when switching from the X-Server display to a text console.

hmmm. That must be a typo because ati-driver-installer-8.36.5-x86.x86_64.run contains no x720 directory. Atleast the one I downloaded. Still using the X_VERSION=x710 thing to install. If they aren't planning on adding an x720 directory then they need to symlink within the run file.

The x710 drivers work fine so it doesn't bother me. Just annoying having to specify the extra argument.

Code:
[root@jaguar ~] fglrxinfo
display: :0.0  screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI Mobility Radeon X1600
OpenGL version string: 2.0.6458 (8.36.5)

[root@jaguar ~] glxinfo
name of display: :0.0
display: :0  screen: 0
direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: SGI
server glx version string: 1.2
<snip>

[root@jaguar ~] glxgears
18234 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3646.640 FPS
18285 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3656.874 FPS
18289 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3657.773 FPS
18252 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3650.203 FPS
That's on an X1600 mobility
