Anyone Use Partition Magic - w/linux?

Crashed my hdd after trying to install slackware8.1b2. Just got windows backup barely. Was using loadlin to boot linux 8.0 w/ no problem. Had to ask for 8.1b2 iso - something i have never installed of off and iso since i am still new to linux. Anyway after 5reinstalls... and formats windows crashed and so did I. Want to reinstall slack8.0 since i don't see all the advantages to 8.1 ext3 and suposed improvements on x-server and gnome. I did like the look of xfce but didn't get to feel it out much did not attempt installing kde. Still was getting error messages about fonts and glx or something after loging out of xfce. The install tool did not feel any diff than w 8.0 and although i chose a kernel and kernel source bare.i after the install the kernel image was not installed into root like when i installed 8.0 so finding it to boot become an issue. All and all had i stayed with 8.0 and just upgraded i may hav had less trble and still have my slack install funkie lesson... thanks all for your help.
