Accessing a Nikon D3100 camera: Dolphin, Gwenview & gphoto2

Hi,

My girlfriend has a Nikon D3100 camera. When I plug this camera into my workhorse PC (Slackware64 14.1 + KDE 4.10.5), I can't access its content with Gwenview or Dolphin. There's nothing in camera:/

On the other hand, when I open a terminal and fire up gphoto2, I can access the camera content perfectly:

Code:
$ gphoto2 --list-files
$ gphoto2 --get-all-files
$ ...
Is there any way I can make Gwenview and/or Dolphin able to access the camera's content in GUI mode?

On a side note, I've never worked with Digikam, though I plan to give it a spin next week. Does it have better functionality to access cameras?

Cheers,

Niki

I had the same issue of not being able to import photos using gwenview or dolphin. I came upon the following post that points to a bug report and a workaround solution (which, in fact, is not practical):

Found this bug report. I guess this is for ubuntu.

Someone found that if you open a terminal (as normal user) and run kdeinit4, then you can plug in your camera, open it in dolphin, and all is well.

I confirm that it works properly if you run kdeinit4 in a terminal before connecting your camera
