VSCode - Debug and Run shortcut not working

I've come across the most frustrating little problem that many others have experienced for many years.

If I hit the F5 (or Ctrl F5) to run my Python code nothing happens. If I mouse click on the arrow in the top rght corner of the window the code runs fine. It's purely the shortcut that doesn't work. When I press F5 the small bar in the top middle of the screen does pop up (it's got a red square at the right end) but that's it. Nothing in terminal.

I've read that some people have accidentally pressed an F-Lock key but I don't have that. I've also read that you can reset keyboard shortcuts but the instructions don't seem to be relevant to the current version of VSCode.

I checked Keyboard Shortcuts in Preferences and F5 is there and set to Start Debugging. Ctrl-F5 is set to Start Without Debugging.

The only thing I have done since it did work is some edits on a Mac then stage, commit and sync. I've done this a thousand times before with no issues. Settings Sync is off.

I use openSUSE Leap 15.4 and VSCode 1.69.1

Thank you for any help!

If you don't have [Fn] and [FnLock] keys then check your BIOS-settings. ([FnLock] is often the left [Shift] key.)
