Is SMI plug programmable??

I want to use the SMI (System Management Interrupt) pins on my motherboard to connect an input button to. Googling got me nowhere, couldn't even find how to address it. This leads me to believe that maybe the SMI connector can't be accessed by the operating system. Hopefully I'm wrong & one of you geniuses out there can help me! If what I am trying to do is impossible perhaps there is another way? (Can't use anything out the back, parallel, serial or game ports)

OS : Linux Fedora Core 5
Motherboard : ASUS A7S333
