Mandrake 9.1 on ThinkPad 600X

Hello all,

This is my first post here, please bear with me as I am a 'newbie' still:

I have a ThinkPad 600X (P3 500MHz) running Mandrake 9.1

I can not get any sound to work other than the beeps when adjusting volume (Fn+PgUp or Fn+PgDn).

I can run alsamixer, and it does see the correct card / chipset (Sound Fusion CS46xx / Cirrus Logic CS4297A rev 3), verified by lspci. modinfo soundcore also returns ok.

What else do I need to check?

Frequently when alsa gets installed it sets your system settings to mute by default (why is beyond me). Make sure your system isn't muted by going to Multimedia --> Sound --> Aumix and playing with the volume and mute settings.

Talking with a friend of mine real quick, he said that "the module is not loading."

What does this mean? How do I confirm this?

OK it is all fixed!

In the BIOS (F1 at boot) you have to turn off the "Quick Boot" option.

Then adjust audio settings to make sure that mute is not selected.

Now the proper module loads, and the sound works!
