Changing Computer Name

I am trying to change the name from localhost to something else I heard you have to access the etc dir to do this but I cant gain access to the folder. I have tried changing permissions but still doesn’t work.

What am I doing wrong?

I have found that I have access to practically nothing when I set the security level to higher but when I lower the level to high I can now access directories like etc. But I can only read and not write which I need to do that to change the hostname. I have tried resetting permissions etc but I still cant write.

Is it safe to lower the level and will it function differently?

Furthermore how can I make it so that my user can have complete control over the system?

To change your hostname use linuxconf, in the hostname tab

menu->configuration->other->linuxconf
