When I check "Latest posts" the bolding of entries seems quite irrational

The way it's supposed to work is that threads which have been updated since you last looked are in bold. That way you can see at a glance which threads contain new posts.

But nowadays, when I log in in the morning, only a few threads at the top have bold titles, even though the update times for many of the others show that there have been active contributions during the (UK) night.

Why is this?

It has always worked for me.

Are you doing anything in advance of the search, like "Mark Forums Read"?

No, I didn't even know you could do that.

Sorry all I have is that it seems to work very well for me.

In fact, I use that to find threads with new information versus use email alerts.

The Mark Forums Read is one below the View Latest Threads in the quick menu and occasionally I tap that when using my phone.

Chrome is the browser I'm using.

I use firefox and the arrangement of links seems to be different for me. "Mark forums read" is in the "My LQ" section. But in any case I've never used it.

I emptied the Mozilla cache and now it works. Curious.

I thought the boldness indicated you hadn’t read that thread. So clearing the cache would “correct” things...but I never log off, only close browsers when done.
I use “Mark Forums Read” when I’m done perusing the New Posts if I don’t read all of them.

I generally use "View New Posts", and everything is in the same font. But I don't see posts that I've read and which have no new posts. If I'm in a hurry, I just click the MyLQ link and only see threads I've posted to and which have new posts. There are multiple ways to view the threads, and not everyone has the same preferences.

I don't prefer to use the Mark Forums Read option at all, but sometimes when I use the Quick Links menu on my phone, I hit that by accident.

That wasn't the solution!

The solution was the realisation that I am not usually logged in when I first drop into LQ. Unlike some people, I like to log out of sites before I close down my system for the night. I usually log in again when I see a thread that I want to contribute to.

Do you think this is the beginning of senility? I hope not.

Nah! The more complex you make your steps, the more likely you are to forget one.

There's also research that those who keep active minds can possibly slow progression for senior mind conditions.
