Slackware64 Forum

Is there likely to be a separate 64-bit forum?

Personally I would prefer there to be but I'm not sure what the LQ criteria are for creating new forums.

Perhaps LQ Suggestions & Feedback is a more proper place for this question.

I see no need for a separate forum.

What is your reasoning for having a separate one?

Many other distros come in both 32 and 64 bit but none have a separate forum for each architecture. I doubt you will see it for Slackware either.

Au contraire.
You might would to look at the forum headings here,
http://ubuntuforums.org/

That said, IMHO, there is no need for a separate Slackware64 forum.

Yes . . . but, if you'll look at the forum headings here, http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/, I think you'll see that no distro has seperate forums for separate architectures.

Did they, Slackware would need four. Debian would need ten.

I would be very much against separate forums for 32bit and 64bit (and who knows what other future platforms Slackware would support).

Since the vast majority of the questions would be the same whether it's 64 or 32 bit - how do I install, where do I go for... and so on - having a separate forum would, IMO, just make things more awkward for posters.

I have moved this to suggestions and feedback.

I used to browse the ubuntu 64-bit forum, it was handy having all the 64-bit threads together but I'm not desperate, I'm quite happy with just the one. I guess it does make sense to keep it all in one place.

It's worth noting that the Ubuntu forum only supports Ubuntu and variants so it's not a huge stretch to add a 64-bit sub-forum there. We currently have 30 distribution forums (though not all are current distros, of course) and adding a 64-bit forum would just make it harder for posters to find a place to put their questions: is the Grub problem a 64-bit problem or general to either, for example.

Besides, as more and more people buy new laptops and desktops and servers, the number of 64-bit distro users will increase and eventually the question "64-bit or 32-bit" will mean less and less. I guess.

I was speaking of here at Linuxquestions.org. I believe that is what the OP meant.
