Lenovo U530 Touch 59402369 - Intel Wifi 7260 not working

Hello guys,

I am having trouble getting my Wifi working on my new laptop.

I am running Debian Wheezy.
Code:
uname -a:
Linux dbkakarot 3.2.0-4-686-pae #1 SMP Debian 3.2.51-1 i686 GNU/Linux
I have looked around on the internet, but I am lost.
This is was I did:

I added Backports to my /etc/apt/sources.list:
Code:
deb http://http.debian.net/debian wheezy-backports main
I installed iwlwifi:
Code:
dbkakarot:/lib/firmware# aptitude -t wheezy-backports search iwlwifi
i   firmware-iwlwifi                                                                                  - Binary firmware for Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 and 802.11n cards
I downloaded the following two files from http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/iwlwifi:
Code:
Intel® Wireless 7260
3.10+
iwlwifi-7260-ucode-22.1.7.0.tgz

3.13+
iwlwifi-7260-ucode-22.15.8.0.tgz
I put the more recent one ( 22.15.8.0) into /lib/firmware:
Code:
dbkakarot:/lib/firmware# l | grep 7260
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 674628 Feb  3 07:36 iwlwifi-7260-8.ucode
I added the following code to my kernel config file:
Code:
dbkakarot:/lib/firmware# tail -n 11 /boot/config-3.2.0-4-686-pae
#
# Debugging Options
#
CONFIG_IWLWIFI_DEBUG=y
CONFIG_IWLWIFI_DEBUGFS=y
CONFIG_IWLWIFI_DEBUG_EXPERIMENTAL_UCODE=y
CONFIG_IWLWIFI_DEVICE_TRACING=y
CONFIG_IWLWIFI_P2P=y
CONFIG_IWLEGACY=m
CONFIG_IWL4965=m
CONFIG_IWL3945=m
I have found these in other posts in regards of the 3.11 kernel.

It cannot find the module though:
Code:
dbkakarot:/lib/firmware# modprobe iwl7260
FATAL: Module iwl7260 not found.
iwconfig doesnt do anything either
Code:
dbkakarot:/lib/firmware# iwconfig
lo        no wireless extensions.

eth0      no wireless extensions.
The laptop has two cards. One wireless (7260) and a normal gigabit ethernet.
The network manager is not aware of any wireless cards.

I am a bit lost here. What shall I do now? I have read, that the card is very new and that it will take some time until it is fully supported. From what I see, iwlwifi is not even aware that such ucode file currently exists ? How can I tell it ? What other informationen do u need ?

I am looking forward to receiving an answer.

All the best,
metrx.

Hi

since no-one has replied for a few days let me give you some suggestions and questions

1) to confirm your wireless device is a intel 7260 pls show the snippet for the wireless section for this command
Code:
lspci -vvv
2) you searched for a wireless package but then you did not install it. Why not?
does this computer have ethernet as well?

If you plan to swap from home/ethernet to roaming/wireless I suggest you install wicd-gtk

3) Better still one of the links suggested you need to be on a 3.10+ kernel but you are not
Maybe you can consider installing a liquoirx kernel?

http://liquorix.net/

and how to install
http://techpatterns.com/forums/about1212.html

4) Effectively you may find you need firmware
----but the kernel modules must match your kernel

this is easier to achieve with a nice kernel like liquorix and adding non-free to your apt sources

when you search and find the appropriate wireless package you install it, rather than trying to use some
mismatched or incomplete independent packages incompatible with your "slightly" out of date kernel

good luck

Thank you aus9,

I solved the issue by connecting via ethernet, then a dist-upgrade, getting kernel 3.12.3-031203-generic with it and finally installing wicd.
