Wrong keyboard detected

Heres the problem I have been trying to put linux on my laptop for some time with not much avail well I now have mandrake 8.1 installed and working exept for it did not detect my keyboard correctly the left side of the keyboard is correct but the right side i.e u,i,o,p,j,k,l,b,n,m, keys are mapped to numbers, it seems that it thinks it has a keyboard with a num pad and it put those keys on my right side of the keyboard, I am using a compaq presario 1200z laptop, I have tryed all the keymaps and no matter which one it still uses the numbers on the right side of the keyboard, if anyone could help me out, I don't mind reinstalling if I did something wrong there, I have tryed the install 3 times to fix the problem already, oh and I am writting this on a different computer in case you are wondering how I am typing.
Thank You
-Marcus-
