Exclamation VLC says missing codec h264 on CentOS/Rhel 7

Whenever I play a video in VLC,it says:
VLC does not support the audio or video format "h264". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.
The audio works though but not the video

h264 is proprietary patented video codec. So you to have purchase the rights. There is opensource codec/package x264 to play this.

did you fallow the instructions on the cent Wiki ?

http://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks...mediaOnCentOS7

and install the third party repos that have the media files
( by law the HD TV codec and not be redistributed in Cent without a very expensive license )
BUT
other country's might not require that

the "gstreamer" files should cover it

also have a look at the fedora "Mjwired" guide
http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mj...l#mediaplayers
Most of that can be ported to CentOS
-- BUT YOU HAVE TO USE THE CENT VERSIONS !!! not the fedora files

i will not be using 7 for a long time
( the software I NEED!!! is for rhel6 )

Did you install VLC2 from the "nux" and "EPEL" repos

or

did you try to use the very old RHEL5 version from
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-redhat.html

this one is the old VLC0.9 ( aka 1 )
the version in the nux repo is the current VLC2
