this ppa does not support bionic - any workaround?

Trying to add a ppa for an older program but i get this error
this ppa does not support bionic
on the latest linux mint.
is there any way to bypass that, at my own risk, and knowing installing this could end up screwing my system up?

It depends on which dependencies the package has and whether they clash with those in the 18.04 ecosystem. Which software and which PPA are we talking about here?

Thanks for the reply. After looking at the PPA further, nothing's been updated on there in over 2 years, so I'm just going to find an alternate. But thanks for explaining what i'd have to look through to possibly get it working.

No problem. If you don't find an alternate source then you can download the package manually from the PPA web page and have a look to see which dependencies it declares. If you find that you'll be able to satisfy them without conflicting with packages already on the system then you can manually install the package's deb file. If there are conflicts, but you really need that package, then you can tweak the declared dependencies and rebuild the package so that it depends on 18.04-supplied packages and versions, but whether the program actually runs or not in that case is another question.

Of course, building from source is an additional option.

If you do decide that you can let us know which package you're talking about, then we may be able to provide better package-relevant advice.

the idea is that
  • you provide as much information as you can about your problem, including what you already tried/searched etc. bfore posting
  • you open a dedicated thread for a dedicated problem (not what you did - you just replied to an existing thread)
please read the first link in my signature.
