Hi Everyone,
I am not sure if this post should be in S/W or H/W but we will try here first. As part of a recent diagnoses of why I had no sound running cvscedega/winex I was told to disable ARTS in the KDE Control Panel. My winex problem was later resolved with an unrelated setting change in the winex control file.
So I decided to re-enable ARTS (or as it is called in the MDK 10.1's control center 'the sound system'). However, since then I have no sound in X other than applications like winex or websites with embedded sound. I do not here things like the startup or shutdown themes or the system bell in the console when I type something wrong or K3b when a CD burn is done.
Here is where it gets strange - if I go into the control panel and click test sound - I hear the startup music. If I hit midi test - I do not hear anything. I looked at the services in the Mandrake Linux control center and ALSA and SOUND both are check to start at boot and both advise as running. Under sound, my auto-suspend setting it is set to 2 seconds.
I am using the on-board Nvidia Nforce 2 sound card. I really do not want to have to reload 10.1 to fix this issue, but I have not been able to find any solution for this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
TheSonic1
