Silly Querstion RE: Opening apps from console

Hey all!

So here is a silly question.
When launching any foreground app from the console (for example firefox, thunderbird, xmms etc) it will then tie up that console until the app is closed.
Is there a way to send the app to the KDE kicker, so it won't tie up my console?

<fileyourrunng> &

& makes things go into the background. If you want to make sure they continue to run even when the terminal closes then do this: nohup <fileyourrunning> &
