processes showing defunct

this is strange, I've had my LFS system for almost a year now and in just the last few days I've been noticing that when I exit a program (xmms, gaim, whatever ... it seems almost across the board) that the program becomes defunct. The program runs normal, it exits normally (as much as I can tell) but when I execute 'ps' an hour or two later it is listed as defunct... whats up with this?

Two possible reasons:
1. Process from you start this (parent) programs not wait when children die.\
He work after child die but not make reaction when child died.
2. Process init not wait orphans. (whats program you using ?)

Sorry for english.

Yuray, thanks for the response. I use a launcher called iDesk and it was causing the defunct processes. I checked the website last night and found out that they posted a patch that fixed the problem so no more defunct processes.

Thanks again for the response,
jpbarto
