mplayer has sound - xmms doesn't

Good morning,

Until yesterday evening both xmms and mplayer worked fine.

When booting now kde takes 2-3minutes to start up after user login.

The volume control icon (speaker image) in the lower right edge of the screen has disappeared (how can I get this back ?)

Now xmms doesn't give any sound
but mplayer works perfectly.

Any ideas how to solve this ?

I'm SUSE 9.2 on a Celeron 2400.

Thanks in advance.

Do you have the right play mode seletcted in XMMS? Do you have the right Output selected in XMMS? Maybe run XMMS from the terminal to see if you get any errors.

Volume icon disappearing

My volume control icon also disappeared in SuSE 9.3 for awhile. I was at a loss to make it reappear. By accident, I went back into the Multimedia menu and click on the volume control icon, bringing it up like a regular program. After that, the volume icon came back. A low-tech fix, but a fix nonetheless.

Just to give it a try - I uninstalled the xmms rpm this morning and then reinstalled it.

Now xmms works as it used to !!!!

Thanks for answering this quickly.

Best regards,
