How do I create a self signed SSL certificate?

Hey there, I'm IMAP'ing my email from my RH 8.0 box, and I just enabled imaps, got the port all forwareded, but when I connected to it it says my cert is crap, and just has (what looks to be) default junk in there (ie: localhost.localdomain ... etc)

How can I create my own certificate, so it will have my hostname and such in there? Its only for me, so I dont care if its signed by verisign, but at the same rate, Id like to know how to do it.

Second question, does https use the same created certificate then?
