grub for 1722k root/boot disk

Does grub work with super-formatted floppy disks (/dev/fd0u1722)?
I'm trying to create a root/boot disk which uses grub as the bootloader but the bootup stalls after the word GRUB appears on screen. It works with 1.44kb formatted floppies though.

(Tom's Root Boot)

The short answer is "Yes, sometimes."

Tom's Root Boot uses the 1.722 with only a few complaints found in Google.

How did you make your 1.722 bootable floppy & what (if any) error msg. did GRUB give you?
