Unhappy ^M throughout log file

i just migrated an expect script from HP-UX to Linux Redhat 8. same script, however the log being generated has several ^M in it, rendering it unreadable.

can anyone point me in the right direction to fix this?

thanks in advance,

That's the DOS version of new line :)
CR/LF rather than LF (which is what
Linux uses) ...

As for the fixing - do you mean:
a) modify the script not to write ^M
or
b) get the ^M out of the logfile?

For the latter: use fromdos or, (as
suggested in another thread in the
programming forum) tr or sed

Cheers,
Tink
