jefro: My setup using 'x0vncserver -display=:0 -PasswordFile=.vnc/passwd' on Linux and TightVNC viewer on Windows works pretty well. I haven't tried any viewers on Linux, but I might now that slacksam has schooled me on how to get that working with TigerVNC viewer. Note that if you ssh in to start x0vncserver, which is my usual, you need the "-display=:0" as the ssh session does not have a display. This also means that the user must have a X session running, which I do since I auto-login that user in KDE.

I do occasionally get "Failed to recv data from socket", but that seems to mostly go away if I set the display scale-by option to auto instead of 100%. I also found that encoding option "Tight" works best.

Now, whether this setup is responsive enough for gaming is another question! I have my doubts.

Not a chance.

The way to get best performance on a remote desktop connection in Slackware is to use XDMCP: https://alien.slackbook.org/blog/tag/xdmcp/

All the parts are there by default, but it is not secure. If doing this remotely, do it over a VPN, and definitely not over the open internet.

Other easy options for KDE users: KRFB & KRDC combo... works at least as well as any other form of VNC, but is pre-installed and works out of the box on a full installation... provided that you use KDE.

I have to ask though, why would you want to play games on a remote desktop?
