Need a system setup walkthrough

I like Debian based systems best, so I'm thinking of making Sarge my primary -- and only -- operating system.

But I'm not real good at making Sarge do much of anything. I can't get an X server up for example.

I can get internet support however, and a number of other things work too.

Here's the first goal:

KDE with FluxBox windowmanager.

If I can get that far, I *should* be able to get the rest of the way.

What CLI commands do I run to get that far from a base install of Debian Sarge?

Code:
apt get update
apt-get install x-window-system
apt-get install fluxbox
apt-get install kde

Without wanting to appear unhelpful, macondo has written an excellent HowTo install Debian Sarge, using the new Net Installer image -- http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...icle&artid=330.

He doesn't install kde, but you can easily do that by simply running as root
Code:
apt-get install kdesktop
Cheers,

mj

I'm running from the new system.

Thanks a lot you two!

Now my install only includes the packages I actually use.

There's some stuff left to install, but most of it is taken care of.

I decided not to install KDE and only installed the software I use from the KDE.

[edit]

Something's wrong: My PC is burning up! No acpi or adm support, not even after apt-get.

Looks like Knoppix wins again. I may be able to restart from Feather instead of Knoppix.

Yeah I know, recompile a new kernel and I'd be fine. But I'm waaaay to new at this kind of thing.
