First of all the usual reminder that F16 is way out of date, the most recent is F23 and F24 comes out shortly. Can you back up your home directory and install the latest?

There is a link to the Fedora project here but it is a bit out of date:

Good luck

Hi.

You could run a new .iso live, recover your data and reinstall?

the changes from 16 to 23 or 24 are SO great that really none of the settings in your fedora 16 home folder will work in 23

do to forum rules i can not go into too much detail

boot into "single user mode" and reset it
( unless you password protected the boot partition )

then use the install CD ( disk1 of 4) and boot into rescue mode and change it

If you haven't used it for 3 years then the data you have on there probably isn't that important to you. I agree with the others, do a new install of the newest version.
