distrobution


so....i got ubuntu for my first distro....couldt get my wifi to work...i used every .inf file i could find....then i tried slax live cd....couldnt get the GUI to start on my laptop, then after hearing EVERYONE say pclos was SOOO hardware compatible....well i couldnt start the GUI.....i mean i KNOW its not crappy hardware on my part...i have a hp pavilion dv8333cl....its an awesome laptop....i have no idea why i cant get anything to work.....i mean i LOVED the look and feel of ubuntu...but my life revolves around WIFI and if i cant get it to work than im screwed, and then mozilla had been working perfect...until it started closing down whenever i went to a page.....i wish i could find some one to help me...or direct me to another distro to try....PLS HELP

Wi-Fi on any linux is a bit difficult to setup. It may not work out of the box. You can't just use the .inf files. You probably need to use a program called ndiswrapper to get it to work (don't have Wi-Fi so I haven't tried setting this up).

You probably should load ubuntu, then start a new thread specifying what Wi-Fi card you have, what linux kernel you're using, and then you'll probably get some help.

You can also visit both Tuxmobil and Linux-on-Laptops to see if someone else has got wi-fi working on your particular laptop.
